Thank you for your interest in Orange County’s Voluntary PreKindergarten (VPK) program.

The Voluntary PreKindergarten (VPK) is a state funded program for all 4 year old children, regardless of family income.

In order to qualify, your child must be 4 years old, on or before Sept 1 of the year of VPK enrollment (exactly 1 year prior to their entrance into Kindergarten at the public school)

Winter, 2007-08 VPK:

Register if your child is 4 years old 9/2/02 - 9/1/03

Because Orange County is participating in a Pilot VPK Registration process, there are 2 methods of enrollment:

  1. If you are planning to enroll your child at a VPK Private Provider, that offered VPK during the 2005-2006 school year and is an approved 2006-07 VPK provider, then you may contact that provider directly. (See a current provider list at www.elcoc.org. These providers do not have NEW marked beside them) You will need to bring documents to show proof of child’s birth (i.e. birth certificate) and proof of residency (i.e. current FL driver’s license).  Parents or state appointed guardians are the only persons allowed to register their child for VPK.  Child must have been born between Sept. 2, 2002 and Sept. 1, 2003.  There are NO age exceptions.  No Certificates of Eligibility will be required at these facilities.
  1. If you are planning to enroll at a VPK Private Provider, new to the VPK program this year, (identified on the provider list as “NEW”) then you will need to call 407-532-4254 after March 12, 2007 to receive a Certificate of Eligibility.  You will then take that certificate to the provider to complete the VPK enrollment process.  See a list of VPK approved providers here

If the VPK facility is NOT located in Orange County, then you must contact the Early Learning Coalition in the county where your child will be ATTENDING the VPK program, regardless of the county where you live.  Contact information for Early Learning Coalitions are listed on the state website at

www.VPKflorida.org

NOTE: If you are planning to enroll your child at an Orange County public school, please be aware that not all public schools are able to accommodate VPK.  A tentative list of OCPS offering VPK is currently posted on our website. Register at the school. Some schools require residence in the school zone.
